“Bereshit” which means “at the beginning” or “at the beginning” is the word that begins the book of Genesis and symbolically signals the beginning of a new stage of the International Jewish Film Festival in Mexico. “The restart” is the word that complements our Slogan for the 19th International Jewish Film Festival in Mexico, which on this occasion refreshes its way of exhibiting with new sections and exclusive content for both face-to-face functions in movie theaters. During its first three weeks the exhibition of the Official Selection with six films and alternatively two new sections of Documentary Film and Mexican Feature Film only for Cinépolis Klic.

“Bereshit” is the first book of the Torah in the Jewish tradition and tells the story of creation. We chose to name this edition that way, because we are sure that it is the beginning of a new and better future after this long pandemic. It is also a restart for the Festival that this 2022 brings with it new activities that seek to refresh the creative dialogue between the organization and its spectators. THE IMAGE OF THE 19th FICJM The image of the festival number 19 was made by the plastic artist Sharon Muss who comments on her work: “Topics such as love, sensuality, sensitivity, creation, and beauty are constant and repeated. from the experiential they become paradigms of the feeling of a modern, independent, strong and stubborn woman. Another important point within my works is to achieve a fusion either with contrasts within the color palette, the images or the formats and to achieve that they form a visual and intimate harmony. ” About the painting that illustrates the poster of our 19th edition, the artist warns us that it is an allegory of the beginning, since the work is called “Genesis” and about it, Sharon Muss writes the following: “The past, present and future define this piece, time passes while chapters, worlds, dreams, projects and beings, end their paths, in their present that is linked to their next and inevitable rebirth, the future where they are already more than what they were, bigger , fuller, fuller … complete because of what they were, lived and shared, during the process … time goes on, the birds fly. “

The Festival’s ambassadors

This year, women are the central theme of the International Jewish Film Festival in Mexico, the campaign that complements the promotion of our Official Selection, tells a parallel story. La historia real de 36 mujeres mexicanas, judías, que nos hablan de su vida, sus logros y el significado de ser mujeres en nuestro país.

The idea arises taking as its principle the power that cinema has to penetrate the viewer by appealing to their emotions. In this sense, we wanted to move from the screen to real life by telling the story of some of the outstanding women in various areas of public life, with the purpose of inspiring with an alternative, constructive and purposeful discourse.

During the festival and throughout 2020, we will get to know the history of each of the FICJM ambassadors through video, photos and thoughts that will be available on various communication channels, mainly social networks.
Hopefully the stories we share serve to inspire.
